-
Down Syndrome
-
Muscular Dystrophy
-

BENEFITS OF AQUATIC THERAPY
-
The increased buoyancy or floating makes it easier to move the extremities while reducing weightbearing through the legs, which is great for those with decreased balance or strength
-
Swimming is a full body exercise which makes it great for building endurance
-
Water can provide great sensory input for the body whether you only dip your feet in or dunk your head!
-
It encourages work on respiration and breath control which can impact progress with physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy
-
It's FUN!
AQUATIC THERAPY VS. ADAPTIVE SWIM
-
Aquatic therapy is a form of habilitation or rehabilitation that involves clinical judgement of a licensed provider to determine interventions and an appropriate plan of care
-
Adaptive swim involves teaching those with disability HOW to swim
-
Sometimes, these two practices can overlap! It depends on your child’s goals and needs!
